TSM-24-DPS serial console server provides secure in-band and out-of-band access to RS232 serial console and maintenance ports with the added benefit of dual power supplies for failsafe redundant power. 24/7 remote access to servers, routers, switches, firewalls and other network elements reduces costly site visits and truck rolls.
The TSM-24-DPS can remotely monitor network devices, including WTI power switches, constantly watching for significant changes. Administrators are promptly notified via SNMP or email when high temperature, full port buffers, invalid access attempts, communication loss to network equipment or other critical events are detected. Secure SSHv2 encryption, HTTPS/SSL secure web, port-specific password protection, IP packet filtering and other security features allow the TSM-24-DPS to be used in the most secure environments.
Dual Power Inlets for Power Redundancy
The TSM-24-DPS is ideal for mission critical applications, where power redundancy is required in order to ensure uninterrupted access to command functions on vital network devices. The TSM-24-DPS includes two power inlets to allow connection to a primary power source and a secondary power source, providing continued console port access, even if the primary power source fails.
SNMP Control, Monitoring & Configuration
The TSM-24-DPS allows administrators to use managed MIB objects to edit subscriber accounts, set configuration parameters and display unit status. In addition to these MIB based management and control features, SNMP Traps can provide notification when alarm events are detected.
Reverse/Outbound SSH
The TSM-24-DPS allows outbound SSH and Telnet connections to be initiated from a free RS232 serial port. Providing that outbound SSH/Telnet is enabled for the individual subscriber, this provides users and administrators with the ability to connect to other network devices via TCP/IP.
Ping-No-Answer Alarm (Failed Ping Command)
When enabled, the TSM-24-DPS will ping IP addresses or domains, specified by the administrator, according to a set schedule. If the device at that IP address or domain fails to respond, then the Ping-No-Answer alarm can provide notification via Email, Syslog Message or SNMP Trap.
Lost Communication Alarm
The TSM-24 can provide prompt notification via Email, Syslog Message or SNMP trap when serial communication with an attached WTI device is disrupted. The attached WTI device must have the 'Heartbeat' feature enabled.
Security & Co-Location
Secure Shell (SSHv2) encryption and address-specific IP security masks prevent unauthorized access to command and configuration functions. The TSM-24-DPS also provides four different levels of user security; the Administrator, Supervisor, User and View Only level. The Administrator level, which is intended for use by system managers and other administrators, provides complete access to all port connection / disconnection functions, operating features and configuration menus, and also allows access to any port on the switch. The User level is ideal for co-location applications, since users are only permitted to view status and connect to the ports allowed by their user name and password.
Intelligent Port Selection
Each RS232 serial port of the TSM-24-DPS can be individually accessed by number, name, or group via SSH or Telnet sessions. The TSM-24-DPS also allows direct connections using TCP port assignments. Each serial port can be separately configured using simple menu driven commands to set the port password, data rates, flow control and other operating parameters.
The full matrix capability of the TSM-24-DPS allows you to easily connect any two ports on the switch, even when the ports are using different communications settings. Ports can also be connected or disconnected by a third party with supervisor rights, and system managers can swap various RS232 devices between ports at a remote location.
Capture Buffer
"Buffer Mode" allows individual ports to capture and store incoming data, such as error and status messages received from attached console ports. This "snapshot" of the last data received is stored in memory, and can be viewed, saved or erased by the system operator at any time. Console messages can be stored in the TSM-24-DPS port buffers, and sent to a remote location via SYSLOG, or an SNMP message can be generated to alert administrators when new console messages are received.
Includes Enterprise Management Software
All WTI console server products include WTI’s convenient Enterprise Management Software, which drastically simplifies the task of managing multiple console servers spread throughout your network infrastructure. The WMU Enterprise Management Software provides a centralized command interface that allows administrators to easily manage, label and control multiple WTI console servers in large network applications, reducing the time required to access console port command functions on connected devices.
Once installed on your PC or laptop, the Enterprise Management Software can search a user-defined IP address range on your network and discover all WTI console servers within the range. Discovered units are then added to the Enterprise Management Software’s inventory, allowing administrators to assign a descriptive tag to each console server in order to denote the location or function of the device. In addition to providing a centralized interface for remote console port access, the Enterprise Management Software can also be used to control firmware updates for WTI products and edit and manage user accounts at individual or multiple WTI console servers.
The VMR includes a robust selection of monitoring features, including event alarms, outlet-specific metering and SNMP polling to help you keep tabs on vital network elements, avoid costly service calls and maximize up time.
The VMR-HD4D30 features dual 30 Amp inputs, (4) four individually metered & switched IEC C19 outlets and (4) four 20 Amp UL-489 circuit breakers. Each circuit breaker protects one IEC C19 outlet and supports up to 20 Amps. The VMR-HD4D30 is ideal for remote power control and management of Cisco Catalyst LAN Switches, Cisco Data Center Switches, Juniper EX8200 Series LAN Switches, Juniper MX480 Series Edge Routers, Sun Blade 6000 Chassis, HP BladeSystem Enclosures and other high-amp equipment.
Advanced outlet level power metering capabilities allow the VMR-HD4D30 to measure and report Kilowatt Hours, Kilowatts, Amps, Voltage and Temperature. When any of these factors exceed threshold values, the VMR-HD can switch or reboot power and promptly send notification. In addition to its many alarm functions, the VMR-HD can also perform remote reboots and power shutdowns on individual outlets according to a user-defined schedule, when a ping command fails or on demand.
Energy consumption data from your IT equipment can be individually assessed at each VMR-HD circuit and used for billing, heat calculation and load distribution. The VMR's intelligent, feature-rich design allows you to meter, report and control total current, power and energy consumption in your rack, cabinet or remote site. This provides the perfect solution for data centers striving for reduced energy costs and LEED certification.
The VMR-HD can be configured and operated via its convenient IP web browser interface or by any SNMP MIB based enterprise management software. Power Management for HP C7000 Blade Servers
The VMR-HD4D30 is the perfect tool for controlling 200 to 240V AC power to a Hewlett Packard C7000 Blade Server. The VMR-HD includes two separate power buses; this makes the VMR-HD particularly well suited for devices such as the HP C7000 that require power supply redundancy. Each power bus is split in two, individually breakered circuits; each circuit includes two switched 20 Amp IEC C19 outlets, for a total of 4 outlets (one outlet per breaker, two breakers per bus.) The VMR-HD4D30 can also remotely reboot or power down the HP C7000 Blade Server, monitor power consumption, temperature and other factors, and generate alarm notification when critical events are detected.
Remote Power Reboot for Cisco Catalyst 6500
In this example, the VMR-HD4D30 is used to remotely reboot or power down a Cisco Catalyst 6500 switch. The VMR's four outlet metered & switched, 20 Amp IEC C-19 outlets are used to provide power control for the Cisco Catalyst. In addition to controlling power, the VMR can also measure power consumption by the Cisco switch, and report results in chart or text format. The VMR-HD is also compatible with Cisco EnergyWise.
Remote Power Reboot for Juniper MX480 Series Edge Router
The VMR-HD4D30 can also provide remote power switching, reboot and current monitoring capabilities for Juniper MX480 Series Edge Routers. The VMR's four switched, metered, 20 Amp IEC C-19 outlets are ideal for Juniper MX480 Edge Routers that include up to four power supply modules. The VMR's power metering capabilities allow administrators to keep track of current consumption at each outlet and report power data in convenient chart form or text format. The VMR's power consumption alarm feature can also notify support personnel when power consumption exceeds user-defined trigger values.
Measuring and Controlling Power to Sun Blade 6000 Servers
The VMR-HD4D30 is well suited for controlling power and reboot functions for Sun Blade 6000 servers. In addition to power control and reboot functions, the VMR-HD also provides the ability to meter energy use by the Sun Blade 6000 and report findings in text or graph format; a very valuable tool for those who need to track power use and energy costs. The VMR's four outlet metered & switched, 20 Amp IEC C-19 outlets are used to provide power control for the Sun Blade 6000.
